No Orange Thread?

A handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.
 ~Dutch Proverb

By the end of the afternoon yesterday, I had a numb brain, a sore butt, and blurry eyes.  I spent almost the entire day staring at the computer.  All I wanted to do was shut my eyes, lay my head down on the keyboard and go to sleep.  Nothing was making any sense any more.  First thing in the morning, I had to spend about an hour making up birthday invitations to send out to our grandsons' joint birthday party happening next month.  Then I spent about 3 hours working on emails to send out swap partner information for Block Swap Adventure that are going out this morning.  During lunch I spent a little time reading blogs and leaving a few comments.  After lunch I pulled myself away from that hypnotizing screen to stitch up a hexie flower and watch one tv show.  The rest of the afternoon was spent responding to comments in just one of the giveaways - and I'm only half way through - UGH!!  So now you can see why I was blurry, burned out, and foggy.  Hopefully I can get back to sewing today!

PHOTO FACT OF THE DAY

National Duckling Month

While National Duckling Month is actually referring to "duck" as a food source, I prefer to center on the idea of the cute little fluffy creature you see swimming around in ponds.  Did you know:
* Ducks' feet have no nerves or blood vessels. This means ducks never feel the cold, even if they swim in icy cold water.
* Ducks can live from 2-12 years, depending on the species.
* A male duck is called a drake, a female is called a duck. Babies are called ducklings.
* All of the Peking ducks in the United States are descendants from three ducks and one drake imported to Long Island, New York in 1873.
* A duck has three eyelids.
* A duck's quack has no echo.
* Some ducks and geese can fly as much as 332 miles a day!
* A duck waddles instead of walking because of its webbed feet.

WEDNESDAY = FLOWER

Today is One Flower Wednesday.  So in keeping with tradition, well at least my tradition, I created.....

...a sporty little hexagon flower.  This one made me think of my grandsons.  When I went to sew the petals together, I discovered that I do not have any orange thread - not a single spool.  Not even in polyester!  Guess I will have to remedy that when I place my next order of fabric.  If you would like to see more hexagon flowers, just click on the link above or on the button on my right side bar.

SQUISHIES

Over the weekend I received two squishy envelopes.  The first one was from Beena.....

....this beautiful hand painted square!  A while back, Beena was having a giveaway, but sadly, I didn't win.  However, she so generously sent everyone who entered her giveaway a personal piece of art!   Beena makes beautiful art on fabric.  You can visit her blog, The Blog Of A Thousand Faces, and see some more of her fantastic art.  Thank you, Beena!!

I also received these two fantastic blocks from Mary of Mariliz's Musings.  Mary was my swap partner in the Block Swap Adventure.  My only request was red, white, and blue or any combination there of.  I just love the blocks that Mary decided to make and the colors are so true.  Thank you so very much for the beautiful blocks, Mary!

FINAL THOUGHT

Friends are such a precious commodity.  They help us in times of stress, they join us in celebration, and encourage us when we need just that little push or reassurance.  You have all been here for me recently.  YOU have given me the confidence to join my local quilt guild.  YOU joined me in my birthday celebration sending me so many wishes and happy thoughts.  YOU are guiding me through my option of entering a quilt show.  YOU are always giving me a kind word, a pat on the back and happiness when you leave a comment.  YOU have added sunshine and laughter to each and every one of my days.  I can't express what YOU mean to me.  Thank you for being my friend :D

A good friend is a connection to life - a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.

Love the squishies! Now I have lots of orange thread, but very little orange material. I didn't do a lot of computer stuff yesterday because of 'blogger' being 'boogery'. Instead I got 2 quilts finished into flimsies - getting their final borders on
-- oh, and did some housework. Have a better day.

Love your cute hexie!

I didn't get much done yesterday either due to all the weather in OK. We watched the storms form over us and then followed it on TV while calling family and friends to make sure they were okay.

Have a great day!

I admire you for "blooming where you're planted" (as we used to say in the late 60's!). It seems you get so much done every day! You're entitled to have a fuzzy brain day every now and then!
Thank you for being an encourager. I see your encouraging comments everywhere in blogland. You are appreciated!

You are a sweetie, Linda. I appreciate all of your kind words, too. Sometimes a kind word just hits the spot:) That hand painted block is certainly amazing! And I do love your hexie. Very cheerful!

Your hexie makes me smile! Just darling! Wow! It is time for new swap partners! Where did May go??
SMS Giveaway Day has really been something, hasn't it? I haven't even scratched the surface with looking at blogs. I spent so much time at the computer looking at blogs that I couldn't bear to do it any more. I didn't answer giveaway comments this time. I normally do, but this time I have over 600, and I'm really glad I didn't try it! Ooops! Didn't mean to write you a book, don't know why I am so chatty this morning, other than my husband has been out of town for a week and I'm longing to someone to talk to, and you are one of my very favorite blogging friends--so I'm bending your poor ear!

Wish I could talk to my computer and tell it what to do, and what to say, and where to send it,,,then I could holler at it from my sewing machine and get more done......

I can relate to sitting on the puter too long. LOL Once you go on it can be a trap and time just flys by.
Hope you got some stitching done today.
Great hexie and blocks.
Enjoy your day.

Super cute hexie!!! Your post made me smile--- I had just been trying to comment on someone else's post...and gave up in frustration with blogger being temperamental...and the first thing I see next is your wise little saying about patience!! Something to remember for sure!!

I know that feeling of having been on the computer too long. I am going to to work on doing more sewing then blogging this summer. Just make sure you add some things in your day where your vision is looking far away. Like watching tv. It will help with your vision. That hand painted fabric is so beautiful! I always use white thread on my hexies. I never thought abotu using a matching color. LOL!!

Today's hexagon is a miniature work of art - too bad not to pop it into a matted frame!

I have to share this little story now. Over the weekend, my son and I were driving getting ready to cross a freeway overpass when traffic suddenly slowed to a stop. While I'm straining against the sun to see what's in the way, my son yells out "family of ducks, family of ducks!!" and sure enough there goes a mama duck and a line of about 8 ducklings crossing a four lane road...ugh!! Fortunately, they made it, whew. They were adorable!

Love your flower...so cute!

I'm glad you've decided to enter a quilt in the show!! Awww...that duckling pic is so cute!! I can't wait to see families of quail trailing down the dirt roads 'round these parts. LOL The little car in the middle of the hexie is cute - reminds me of Speed Racer. That block is really pretty...and it's hand painted? Awesome!

I always enjoy your photo fact of the day. I would prefer to not eat duck, but I love feeding them at the park.

I am happy that you had a great birthday.
