Let's Celebrate 2011 With A Giveaway!!

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
 ~Oprah Winfrey

Tomorrow a new year will be here!  Are you ready to start writing 2011?  It was only in the last couple of months that I finally quit writing 2009 on everything - and now I have to start all over again.  I would like to welcome 2011 in with open arms but my eyes will be closed and will have to wait until the morning for a 'how-do-you-do' from me.  Another year gone - done, expired, slipped away - I hope I used it wisely.  This is the year I started blogging and made so many great new friends.  I hope you all have a stupendous 2011!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PHOTO OF THE DAY
Mabry Mill
This mill was built about 1910 by Edwin B. Mabry, a jack of all trades who had been a chairmaker, a miner, a coal company blacksmith, and a farmer.  He and his wife, Mintoria Lizzie Mabry, operated the mill until 1936, grinding corn and sawing lumber for their Meadows of Dan neighbors.  In 1945, the National Park Service restored and landscaped the mill.  Today, it is the most photographed feature on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  And my DH added to that statistic a couple of springs ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I did get a little sewing done yesterday.  I am working on the reusable shopping bag for my hairdresser.  I didn't get as far along as I had hoped but will have a picture of it to share with you on Monday.

Instead of something I made, I will share what my wonderful DH gave me for Christmas.....

Exactly what I asked for on my Christmas list.  On the left is the Finishing Kit for the Designer Mystery BOM.  And on the right is the Backing set.  Both came from the Fat Quarter Shop (like you couldn't see the .  stickers - lol) So, after receiving all of the blocks (some time in May), I will be able to produce my very first Christmas quilt!  Something new for next Christmas.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recently signed up to participate in the Birdie Stitches BOM.  You can see the little button on my right sidebar.  This is being put on by Little Miss Shabby and will start tomorrow!  I can hardly wait.
I decided to go with Urban Chicks Dream On for my stitchery to be based on for color.  I will use the Grass Moda for the sashing and the White Bleached Bella Solid for the block center where the stitchery will go.  The other fabric is for the border.  I have all but one of the colors of floss I need and hope to pick that up next time I'm out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

300 FOLLOWERS AND MORE FOR 2011 - THANK YOU!! GIVEAWAY

I know....... you are thinking yada-yada-yada, gab-gab-gab.........GET ON WITH THE GIVEAWAY!  Are you sure you really want to know what I'm giving away?  But wait!  First you have to know why I'm having this giveaway.  I want to thank each and everyone of my followers for helping me reach over 300 followers.  This happened awhile back but I was in the middle of another giveaway and I wanted to have a special giveaway to celebrate.  Plus, I want to start of 2011 the RIGHT way!   You are going to help me destash by entering to win this...........

This is a full color pattern call Flying Colors designed by Georgette Dell'Orco.  Isn't it beautiful.  The finished quilt measures approximately 64" X 64".

BUT WAIT!

THERE'S MORE!

Along with the pattern you will also receive.........

25 fat quarters and 5/8 of a yard of black fabric.  That makes for a total of 7 1/8 yards of fabric (if my brain did the math correctly).  Each color bundle (green, yellow, blue, pink, and purple) contains 5 fat quarters in shades from light to dark.  Only the backing is not included which requires four yards.

Now how do you enter you ask.  First of all, you do not need to be a follower but it sure would be nice (and make me happy) since this is a thank you for reaching 300 followers.  Just follow the steps below:

1.  Leave me a comment telling me what hobbies you do besides quilting.
My comment would be - I crochet blankets for Project Linus, enjoy doing counted cross-stitch, read and am looking forward to renewing my love of embroidery.

2.  Blog about this giveaway - then come back and leave me another comment telling me you did so and make sure to include a link to your blog where you posted about it (I will be checking).  This must be a separate entry - if you combine #1 and #2 it will only count as one entry.

That's it.  Easy enough don't you think?  By the way, any one may enter - international welcome!  I will leave this giveaway open until Sunday, January 9, 2011, at 8:00 PM PST.  I will be using random.org to select the winner and make the big announcement in my post on the following Monday.  I will do my best to respond to each and every one of your comment/entries.  If I don't respond, please know that I have read and enjoyed each and every one of your comments.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OTHER GIVEAWAYS
(I could only find one new one :(    )
The Pickledish Patch (previously Tozz's Corner) is having giveaway #3.  There is a whole assortment of great things to be won here.  You must enter by January 7, 2011.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FINAL THOUGHT

As you rush off to celebrate the New Year, please take care - I want to see you back in 2011!  So many of you have become good friends to me, even if it is only through comments and emails.  It has been fun and I hope to continue sharing and complaining, wishing and hoping, creating and ripping with you all throughout the next year.

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

Great giveaway!

My hobbies - I love reading. And I make friendship bracelets, and am just starting to try and teach my self beading - zipper pulls, bookmarks, and hopefully move onto bracelets!

I want to also teach myself embroidery - have the materials for it, but I've been too scared to start yet!!!

Melinda said...

I enjoy knitting, especially want to make more socks. I also love making small projects like bags and notebook covers. I spend most of my time quilting, piecing, teaching classes or working at the quilt shop so I don't have a lot of time for other interests.

Wow Linda what a great giveaway!!! Congrats on 300 followers! I have picked up knitting again, but I'm very limited in what I do. Only scarves right now :-) And I do also cross stitch. Thanks so much for this wonderful giveaway. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

Congrats on the 300 followers! I'm not surprised as this is one of my favorite blogs ;) For other hobbies I like to read, blog, fire dance and hula hoop. Quilting is basically my only crafty hobby. Although one day I can see myself doing embroidery or cross stitch. Thanks for the amazing giveaways! Hope you have a fabulous New Year!

I read, play the piano, and spend time with my boys. I can crochet and knit and cross stitch. I also sew clothing. I love cooking. I really want to be better at gardening and blogging.

Staci said...

Other hobbies-I've become so obsessed with quilting I don't do much more! I cook, constantly trying new recipes, I read as obsessively as I quilt, and I occasionally do "crafts'. I don't know what else to call it. Little stuffed toys, or painted Christmas ornaments, a wreath here and there.

What a stunning giveaway! Someone is going to be so happy to win this! Congrats on going over 300 followers! And, of course, thanks for your giveaway!

Michele T said...

Wow! This is an incredible giveaway - you are a generous soul!! I have a few other creative passions: knitting, and various needlework crafts. Thanks for the chance, wishing you a great New Year and I look forward to more inspiration from your blog.

Charlene S said...

Quilting is not a hobby for me. It is a lifestyle. My hobby is playing/visiting with grandchildren and since I now have 18, it is time filling. My computer could also be considered a hobby too.

Tracy said...

Other hobbies other than sew....Well, I'm fairly new to sewing. I love to crochet. I'm currently working on an afghan for our couch, but the way things are looking, my son is going to steal it. I also love to cross stitch. I want to learn to knit, I used to eons ago when I was a kid. I love to read, though most of my reading now is Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street books. I love to cook and bake. :) The newest thing that I have done is I made some Lebkuchen. It was a throwback to when we lived in Germany as kids. :) I had it at Christmas and everyone loved it. :)

Congrats on having over 300 followers! :) That's awesome. :) I hope this New Year finds you accomplishing all you set out to do! :)

The birdie BOM will be so cute. I amy have to join that one too!!!

I thought about you when I saw the weather from AZ. Surely glad your daughter didn't have to make the trip this week.

Your Christmas quilt will be wonderful. I can't wait to see it finished.

What a wonderful giveaway!! I have way too many other crafts that I work on around here - clothing sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, woodworking, leaded glass, counted cross stitch, embroidery, etc. There sre just not enough hours in the day.

I dabble in watercolor but only seem to accomplish anything when I go to a class. My "take along" craft is crocheting 6x9 inch rectangles for afghans for wounded soldiers.It's amazing what you can get done just "waiting!" I'm also a big reader and have a big garden. But quilting is my true love!

Congrats on the success of your blog - it's one of my favorites.

Hi Linda, First, I stopped by to wish you a wonderful 'Happy New Year', and found your generous giveaway! Congratulations on 300 followers!!! (I am one of them) I don't have a blog but I would love to participate in the giveaway. The pattern alone is wonderful but oh my gosh, the fabrics absolutely take my breath away! I of course love quilting, and this year I will continue re-teaching my often uncooperative hands the tricks of simple embroidery stitches and hopefully some of the not so simple ones, LOL. I too have joined in the Birdie Stitches BOM and I'm so excited about it. I look forward to a more productive sewing year in 2011 now that I have everything in one room and don't have to play search and find when I need a quilting or stitching tool. As I said, I don't have a blog but I am going to send all my quilting family and friends the link to your giveaway. Thanks so much for an opportunity to have this beautiful project and I want to wish everyone a very Blessed New Year AND of course, GOOD LUCK in the giveaway! Hugs...

oh be still my heart! Actually at first I was jelouse of what your hubby bought you, but I think I bought that for myself once you mentioned what it was! Now if only my hubby bought ME some fabrics too!!!

I also do counted cross stitch, and I used to crochet scarves, I stull have the needles but I gave away my yarn stash when I realised how much I love quilting. My 4 1/2 year old has been asking for a scarf so I might go buy some yarn for when we go on vacation since I can't quite take my sewing machine on a plane with me....and I don't want to mail it to my mom and back, and be without it that long (she has a machine if I start to go through withdrawl!)

It's back to quilting now!

Wow, wow, wow!!! Um... down to business. I knit from time to time - socks, mitts, gloves, a few sweaters. I cross stitch. I have been known to make beaded earrings. I have made beaded moose skin slippers for all my family. I sew clothes. Once or twice a year I go to an art retreat where I do oil or acrylic or water colour painting. I never manage to do any in between the retreats. I have the necessary equipment for stained glass and have made a few pieces. I have done a lot of paper tole. While motherhood and sewing takes most of my time these days, I also like to draw (http://picasaweb.google.com/krw1243/Drawings#) and paint, I love to read, play video games with my family, and am a software engineer by trade. I'm kinda all over the place. :)

Awesome! A great way to start the new year. Thanks for the opportunity!

When I'm not creating a quilt, I am crocheting... right now I'm crocheting a small afghan in between stitching. :) I also make handbags, totebags and such. I also have a goal this year to make at least one piece of clothing for myself. This will be a new avenue for me... hope it works out. :)

Here's wishing you a blessed and happy new year!!

reading , digital scrapbooking and cooking are my loves. But really quilting is my favorite!!

Deb said...

Really, the only other hobby I have is reading. It's really hard to find time to devote to reading when I really want to spend every spare moment quilting. However, I got an e-reader for Christmas, so now I really need to give it a try and spend some time reading as well. I'm a follower! Thanks for the chance to win.

Marilyn W said...

I like to garden and as crazy as this sounds, I'm learning to sew. I've never learned how to make clothes, but my almost 4 year old likes to wear dresses, so I'm trying to learn how to make them.

A lot of people can't believe a quilter didn't start out making clothes first...but it DOES happen.

BUT, I'm getting there. We had 5 successful outfits in 2010 with many more planned for 2011.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Thanks

HI Linda,
What a giveaway this is- I think the pattern is glorious as are the fabrics. Someone is going to be very thrilled when you draw their name.
I have done many crafts and creative activities over the past few years. These days I mostly quilt and bead though I also occasionally knit.( I am not a very fast or skilled knitter). I do enjoy making things.
Congratulations on reaching 300 followers.
I am having my own little giveaway on my blog right now to celebrate one hundred posts.
Thanks for hosting such a wonderful giveaway.
Warmest regards,
Anna

Congrats, that's a huge number of followers!!!
If I don't quilt, I read, simple as that :) The two hobbies are quite competitive with each other...

Joanna said...

Linda, congratulations on over 300 followers! How nice. Your blog posts are some of the best to read so I'm not surprized.
I crochet afghans and baby items to donate to a local hospital, I cross stitch, sew clothing, volunteer at my parish, read and listen to books on tape while I do my crafts. I like flower and vegetable gardening but it's becoming a chore, so maybe it's no longer a hobby.

Love all of your fabric choices and look forward to seeing the quilts you create.

Hi Linda! I just found your blog because of someone elses post to it! I am hobby deprived... i have been a workaholic forever. I recently started quilting to create some balance in my life. This year I hope to add gardening and working on my landscape as a hobby to continue to find balance (because i find im getting just as obsessive compulsive about quilting as i am about work!)

Other hobbies? Besides collecting fabric, collecting thread, collecting books and patterns -oh and quilting? :) I actually have learned and know myself well. I dive deep into anything I do, so I know fully well that if I picked up another hobby, 1) I would slack on my quilting stuff, 2) spend way more money and end up in divorce court. :) I have tired knitting, crochet, scrapbooking, and a little painting. I guess I collect books to read, so that could be another hobby :)

Vesuviusmama said...

WOW! I'd sure be happy to take that off your hands. So, what do I do besides quilting? It used to be riding motorcycles, but then I had kids and I couldn't figure out how to install the darned car seats! So now, I guess my other hobby would be reading cozy mysteries. I love finding a protagonist and staying with her (usually a "her") over the course of many books. I get attached. I'm a Libra, and we are loyal. Even to fictional characters, I guess!

Kathy ~~~ said...

HI! Can congrats on your 300+ followers. I crochet comfort shawls. I just started doing that. Also just started making jewelery. Made a cancer awarness bracelet for my niece and sister-in-law.

Whew! The list makes me tired just reading it... better take a nap! :D
