Flowers Come In All Sizes

Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.
~Chinese Proverb

Some days it just feels like I can't get much accomplished.  Yesterday morning, I worked on cutting out borders and sewing HST and bias triangles together.  Then in the afternoon I worked on hexie flowers.  But for some reason, I still don't feel that I got much done.  Maybe I feel that way because I did get so much hand sewing done on Sunday watching cars go around and around and around from sunrise until after dark.  On Sunday I traveled from Monaco to Indianapolis to Charlotte, NC - all from the ease of my recliner.  I did get tired of turning left most of the day - lol!  Anywho, yesterday I felt like I was treading water, spinning my wheels, standing still.  I'm hoping today will be better.  At least I better not go backwards.

PS. I would like to thank you all for your kind birthday wishes yesterday.

ONE FLOWER WEDNESDAY

Yes, today is One Flower Wednesday, but I'm going to share more than one hexie flower.  Over the weekend I was able to play with some different size hexagons.  First I made the normal size.....

This flower is made with 1" hexagons.  Aren't the little duck decoys cute swimming around on the petals?

Next I made this hexie flower.  The hexagons for this measure 1/2",   I put a quarter in the corner of the picture for a reference as to the size of the flower.

Then I decided to take it down one more step.  This flower was made with 3/8" hexagons.  Still smaller but not impossible to work with.

And finally I made the smallest flower with 1/4" hexagons.  The entire flower is not much bigger than the quarter!  A little hard to work with but I liked the results.

And here are the three smaller flowers all together to give you a reference of diminishing size.  I guess I should have included the original size flower that I make every week.  I'm thinking of making something with smaller hexagon flowers but I'm not sure exactly what yet.  This will be a project for sometime in the future.

And for those of you who have wondered how my Grandmother's Flower Garden is growing - well, I can tell you it is growing very, very sloooooowly.  I have several more flowers made but for some reason they just don't make it into the garden.  I did add three more flowers and several stepping stones yesterday.  I need to take the time to make lots and lots of the stepping stones.  Guess it's time to take a trip - they are wonderfully easy to work on in the car.

FINAL THOUGHT

I have no deep thoughts today.  I just received a text that our family vacation house on the coast now has a bright red garage door and I think it is UGLY!  It's the first thing you look at instead of the whole house.  I know that a red door is supposed to be welcoming but this is a little too 'welcoming'.  Oh well.  I only see it maybe twice a year.  My room is a mess but I don't want to clean it up - maybe I can ignore it too - lol!  The high school kid next door is really into yelling at his younger sister.  It's going to be a long summer vacation.  Time to turn up the volume on my CD player.  I feel a bit disjointed - can you tell?  It's just one of those days - thoughts everywhere and nothing worth sharing.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better :)

Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Oh, those little baby hexies! WOW! I've wanted to try making some, and seeing yours makes me want to drop everything and do it. Self control, I need some self control! LOL! I've thought those tiny little gems would be darling appliqued on a quilt block, or maybe a tote bag. I've toyed with the idea of making a table runner of baskets filled with hexie and yo-yo flowers.

Love your Winnie the Pooh quote. Gave me a giggle this morning. Isn't that what we all feel like when we get down with the flu? Hopefully everyone is healthy on this lovely June morning.

I would say you've gotten a LOT done... but I know how you feel. There are plenty of times I don't think I've accomplished much and others where I know I haven't done much but it seems like I did.

Love your hexies! That tiny one is fantastic! I spent Sunday "turning left", too. The sound of the cars relaxes me. There were some exciting endings!

I really enjoy reading your blog. I think your ducks are too cute and can't wait to see what you do with all the tiny hexies you are going to create!

Were the small hexies harder to make than the regular size? They're cute! I'm really liking how the flower garden is coming together - even if it is slooooow. I like the way the SC house looks, and I guess the garage door didn't bother me because I didn't think about it being red until you said something. LOL 10 days to go!!!!

I would like to do some mini ones, someday;)

I'm pretty disjointed myself, unable to focus on anything, which is why I am reading blogs at work. Bad me, I know, but they are installing doors in our lobby downstairs and all I can hear are power tools. LONG day already, and it isn't even noon yet! Your hexies are all lovely, although I'm thinking you are a bit dotty to try that tiny one with 1/4" hexies. I need to pull out my Grandmother's Flower Garden before my two week vacation at the end of June - such a good project on the road, as you said!

I hope your day goes well. I know that disjointed feeling all to well. Don't you love those smaller hexies. They are kind of a pain but they are so cute. The ones you made are so sweet. Great job!!

That is one cute hexie. Love all the bright colours in your garden.

You should be set to go after getting all your ducks in a row! LOL! Nobody at my house ever laughs at my feeble attempts at being humorous, either. Love all the hexies big and small -- not just the one encircled with ducks. Hope the rest of your Wednesday is quiet and productive!

Speaking of noisy neighbors, mine probably wondered why they heard a woman issue a blood-curdling scream this morning. I have a fake fern in a planter on a stand beside my front door. For the past couple of days, my dog, Chloe, would sniff that planter while she waited for me to open the front door after our daily walk. Today, I studied the planter as Chloe sniffed. Suddenly, a wren sprang from beneath the greenery and flew right past me. That's when I screamed. I was so embarrassed. Hope the vision of my startled reaction at least made you smile! ;-)

A little late checking in today!! Doctor appt., Costco run and babysitting has kept me from the computer until now. :)

I love those hexies, but I can't believe that you made one that tiny!!!! OMGoodness! The ducks one looks great and it was fun to see the garden growing.

I think of all the hex flowers you've made, this duck decoy is my favorite. Your small flowers are amazing. I can't imagine working that small.

June is the month we celebrate my parents 58th wedding anniversary. Yes, Mom was a June bride, even if they did run away to get married.

I love your hexies. That's going to be a gorgeous quilt. A lot of work in that one.

You did sound a bit 'jump aroundy' on the last paragraph, but I think that is great. It shows that you just wrote what was on your mind. Us woman have to deal with this, and that, and that, and that...all over all of the time.

Anyway, good luck on those teens. I would hate that. The orange door I might hate too. I don't like to stand out and be noticed too much.

Your hexie quilt is going to be wonderful!
