Mistake? ME????

When you realize you've made a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm.

Yes, I made a mistake.  I'm eating crow now.  You will have to read further down in the post to see what I'm talking about.  Okay, now Mother Nature is not playing fair.  Yesterday it reached 86*.  At least we weren't as hot as southern California.  Long Beach was 100*!  Did somebody forget to tell Ms. Nature that it is now November.  It is not shorts weather!  We are supposed to be in long pants and sweatshirts.  She darn well better cool it back down before Thanksgiving!!

PHOTO OF THE DAY

A Silver Leaf Fern in my shady side yard

The silver leaf fern, also known as the slender brake fern, is a slow-growing plant recognized by its green fronds with white undersides. It can measure up to 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall when fully grown.  The silver leaf fern image is considered representative of New Zealand and New Zealanders, and is frequently used as a symbol of the country's sporting events. The fern's image can be found on everything from army badges to old one-cent coins.  This just happens to be one of my favorite of all ferns.

OMG!!!  Did I ever make a stupid mistake!!!  Now I can't seem to count!!!  I can't believe none of you called me on my counting error in my previous giveaway.  I kept stating that I was giving away '5 fall themed fat quarters'.  Well, yesterday I was getting ready to package these up for Janet....

 and was counting to make sure I had all of them all..............and there were SIX - count 'em.....6.  I went back to the computer and pulled up the posting for the giveaway to check out the picture and sure enough, there were 6 fat quarters in the picture!  So, Janet will be receiving 6 fat quarters, not 5.  Six lashes with a wet noodle for me!!  I'm soooo embarrassed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did manage to make a block yesterday for the Layer Cake Quilt Along.  This is the first block and was given to us by designer Gene Black.  He gave us the tutorial on the Alabama Spinner Block.  His tutorial was perfect!  I didn't have to rip out even one seam.
For this quilt along, you can use either a layer cake or 12 fat quarters.  I went with the fat quarters so I could work from my stash.  I'm using a line from Connecting Threads called Sweet and Sour.  I did omit the applique circle in the center but don't think it really needs it.  There will be a new block by a different designer in just under two weeks.  I shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with this quilt along.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I also finished another candle mat yesterday.

This one was made from a charm pack called Park Avenue by 3 Sisters for moda.  This will be a gift for someone who will remain nameless.  I was pleased with this in the end as I wasn't too sure about the colors.

 Did you notice the fancy little stitch I used to quilt with?

GIVEAWAYS

That's Sew Shawna is have a Pure giveaway.  You can win either a layer cake or jelly roll of Pure by Sweetwater.  This giveaway ends Monday, November 8th.

You'll want to come back tomorrow - I'm starting another giveaway.  This one will be to celebrate my 80th post!

FINAL THOUGHT

Someday I will just have to face the fact that I'm not perfect - lol!  Actually I admit that every day!!  Who among us can say that their seam ripper is never used, that every word is spelled correctly, or doesn't remember to make that 'all important' phone call?  My day is full of mistakes - it's part of who I am.  I don't think I would like being perfect......what fun would that be!?!

No one is perfect... that's why pencils have erasers.

Have a thoroughly fun Thursday!!

THAT'S your mistake!?! I was looking for leaving the kid in the car all night or getting on the wrong plane or something! My days are full of mistakes, too. Sometimes they make me laugh, sometimes they make me curse, but at least my life is interesting!

I absolutely love the stitch you used on that candle mat! I need to think outside the box a little and use decorative stitches. And your green block is wonderful, too.

I think it was a good mistake :-) And your Layer Cake block looks fabulous!

I LOVE the candle mat! Is that your own design or do you have a pattern from somewhere? I live in northern cali too...really tired of the warm weather, although I don't look forward to rain and fog so I guess it's a trade off.

Love the sweet and sour fabric. Almost made me pucker! The candlemat is so cute and I love your stitches.

I really want to join in on the Layer Cake too, but I may pass with the holidays coming up. I don't want to get too far behind. Yours looks great and is in one of my favorite colors.

I love the idea of a candle mat. I can see it done in all sorts of holiday fabrics throughout the year.

Lol, that's funny that no one caught that! I even looked closely at that picture! I live in Sacramento and the weather is at that akward stage where it's freezing in the morning and hot in the afternoon. Which means I wear a big coat to work and carry it on my arm on the way home!

Love the candle mat! You certainly did a fantastic job on that. Those decorative stitches really put the finishing touch on it.

While I'm here I just want to let you know how much I enjoy your posts! Whenever I get to your blog on my treading lust I know I'm in for a fabulous reading of quality content! Thank you!

Mmmm...warm crow. LOL I think she'll be more than happy about receiving MORE fat quarters rather than less! I like the fancy little stitch you did for that candle mat. And I like your green and white star.

If she is upset about getting extra fabric, well just send it to me.

I have made a quilt using the Sweet and Sour. if you decide later to add the circle, may I suggest using either the orange that is the same pattern as the dark green OR one the purple lotus blossom fabric. Either would look stunning! Although your block looks great already.

Oh, I don't think Janet will mind at all. In fact, I am sure she will love it. I wish my mistakes were like yours.

I like Gene Black's idea of using that purple if you add the circle. I was really looking for some serious mistake...miscounting the fabric goes under delightful mistakes. You could have mailed it off and no one would have known! (except for the winner)
I tried the spicy lime chicken recipe on pork tonight...it was okay...I loved it on the chicken BEST!!!

So many great things to look at on your blog. Thank you.

Well I guess I'm the lucky recipient of your mistake! (Back off Gene) I hadn't counted them but I might have noticed that one of those pretty fabrics didn't seem to be there :) Love your Alabama Spinner block.
