What I Have Accomplished Wednesday

"As ye sew, so shall you rip"
                                        ~author unknown

We've made it to the middle of the week.  Wednesday is One Flower Wednesday here at Stray Stitches.  Plus I will be showing you what I have accomplished so far on my Chubby Star Quilt Along.

Photo Of The Day:

This is a rather stunted yellow gerbera daisy in my front yard.  But I love the yellow ones, always so bright and cheery.  Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. Shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future. Yellow will advance from surrounding colors and instill optimism and energy, as well as spark creative thoughts.  Just some thought on yellow.

All of the above goes with my One Flower Wednesday hexagon flower:

This is my third hexagon flower.

Now on to the progress I have made in my Chubby Star Quilt Along.  As I showed you before, first I made four square patches:

Next I made snowball blocks:

Then I put together some off-set triangle squares.  This was a challenge as I didn't fully understand the instructions and became good friends with my seam ripper.  Luckily I had some extra fabric left over, because I soon realized I couldn't work with what I had left after trimming the first set of patches I made.

Next came assembling the four square patches and the off-set triangle squares:

Once these strips were sewn together I had a complete block!

Then it came time to attach the snowball block and to make sure that the triangles matched up to the snowball seams properly.  And (whew!) they did!

Now I have completed two rows and am liking what I'm seeing.  Only 5 more rows to go.  This quilt is actually supposed to be 6 squares by 7 squares but fabric dictated otherwise.

So that's my progress so far.  I'm hoping that it will go a little quicker now.  Matching up all of the seams is time consuming and I'm one of those who has to pin every time there is a seam intersection.  I'm thinking this quilt will go to Project Linus when it is complete.

Request For Help

My friend Leona, over at Leona's Quilting Adventure is requesting help in making a comfort quilt.  Her sister, Tammy, has been fighting cancer for over 12 years, going in and out of remission.  Leona's birthday is coming up and she would love to present Tammy with a comfort quilt as a gift when she visits next month even though it is her birthday and not her sister's.  Leona is looking for either a nine patch or four patch block made from any type of 1930's reproduction fabric in combination with white or off-white.  If you think you would like to help, please click on the link above.  I will be making a block and sending it off soon.

Giveaways

Debi over at Quilting with Debi is have a great giveaway - some moda fat quarters, two moda charm packs, and three patterns.

Another great giveaway is being held over at Diary Of A Quilt Maven. This one ends Friday, so don't delay.

Here's a chance to win a Honey Bun from Blackbird Designs called Beach House for Moda. Jump on over the It Seams To Be Sew to enter. Lana will be drawing the winner on September 27!

And, of course, don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY!  The winner will be announced on Monday!

Final Thoughts

As you go through the day and your thoughts are wandering, remember to enjoy the little things around you that you may normally overlook - the blueness of the sky, the beauty of the surrounding landscape, the flight of the local birds soaring by, the sound of snoring coming from the little pooches nearby (well, at least in my house).  Take a deep breath, close your eyes for just a second, and enjoy life - even if it just for a brief time.

Now off to creating and have a great, wonderful, fantastic Wednesday!!

Your "personal thoughts" brought a tear to my eye. I'm at home with the boys today and I've already gotten annoyed with them and yelled at them. I guess I need to rearrange my thinking and appreciate the time I have with them today. I like your star. I can't wait to see that quilt when you're finished with it.

Your Chubby Star quilt is looking fabulous. I just love all of the soft colors. I am with you on the pinning and matching perfectly. I don't know how people can manage it without pins.

Hi Linda!
I have just discovered your blog through Quilting Blogs and have enjoyed working my way through your posts.I like the way the chubby stars are coming together and look forward to seeing the end result. I want to try your recipes. We are just coming out of Winter here in Australia so I can still enjoy your slow cooker meal. But with Summer on its way I have also lined up your 3 cheese potatoes for the grill. I love the idea of having hummingbirds come to the feeders and I had a good laugh at the melted ice cream truck.
I look forward to following you future posts.
