Finally a finish! I can't believe I finally put the last stitch in the Minnesota Star Quilt. It sat idle for so long. I started this quilt back in May of last year. I'm so embarrassed. I put this quilt on the back burner so many times that I lost count. Almost a year to complete a quilt that's just not that big (60" X 72"). I finished a king sized quilt in under four months (a few years ago). Other projects always looked more interesting. There was always something new to try. And then I finally finished the top this past October. I pieced the backing and then put it in a sandwich. And then it layed on the spare bed, waiting to be quilted. And waited, and waited....... Finally I started quilting it in January - just one row. Not difficult quilting; just quilting 1/4" away from the seam line. No marks to follow, no fancy fmq. And then it sat again. I'd already missed being able to give it as a Christmas gift - also missed Valentine's Day. Good thing the recipient didn't know she was getting it - lol! Finally, with much determination and muscle straining it is done. Woohoo!!! Finished date: April 20, 2011.

PHOTO FACT OF THE DAY
Jelly Beans
Today is Good Friday and Earth Day - two very important days. But April 22 is also important for another reason - It's National Jelly Bean Day. Anyone who loves these delicious, flavorsome, colorful little sweets should treat themselves on this day. But be careful, as we all know, jelly beans are addictive. There are many things you can do to celebrate besides eating jelly beans. Here are a few suggestions. Why not dress in the colors of your favorite jelly bean? You could have a jelly bean party and ask for friends to create their own special jelly bean dish.
Jelly beans are one of the oldest forms of candy we have. They date back to at least the mid-nineteenth century. Jelly bean historians believe the jelly bean center originated from Turkish Delight, which comes from the Middle East. The gummy center is made from sugar, corn syrup and other ingredients to give them their fruit taste. Machines spray the insides with colored sugar to give the beans their hard shells. Jelly beans today come in all kinds of different flavors, including spicy. You can even put different ones in your mouth to create new flavors. They are even popular with American presidents. Ronald Reagan kept a jar on his desk in the White House. Once of the most interesting facts buried in the history of the jelly bean is the fact that many of these little babies even went into space. One of the space shuttles took up a bunch of jelly beans for the shuttle crew to snack on while they were up there.

MINNESOTA STAR QUILT
(picture heavy)
And the unveiling begins......
The colors - browns and blues....
A corner revealed.....
A peak at the backing....
A little more to see.....
Here's the back with a simple row of scrap piecing in the center (ignore the shadow cast by the overhead wires)...
And here it is! The entire quilt in the late afternoon sun. Can you see the toes sticking out underneath. Thanks to my DH for being my quilt holder!
And the final stitches - a label I printed myself using just muslin and freezer paper run through my ink-jet printer. I added some left over fabric around the edges and I had a label.
DONE! COMPLETED! ME = HAPPY :D !!!

FINAL THOUGHTS
It's Good Friday. Many people will spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross. For others it is a day off from work or school. Not everybody celebrates this religious holiday - and that's fine. It's also Earth Day. A day to promote awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It's also just Friday. The last day of the week, the beginning of the weekend. However you look at today I hope it finds you happy and enjoying life.
For I remember it is Easter morn,
And life and love and peace are all new born.

I love the dramatic showing of the quilt - and so deserved. Just my colors! Oh, I really don't like Jelly Beans or any of those 'gummy' candies. But always have a dish set out that magically disappears over the days - gremlins!? NO my MOM. Happy Easter
Your quilt is just beautiful!!! She is very lucky to be receiving this lovely quilt.
Don't feel bad about putting off the quilting, I have a quilt that's been waiting for 5 yrs. I don't like it, it's ugly and big. I might use it for practice on my long arm and give it to charity.
Have a nice Easter. xo
Congrats on your finish! It is a beautiful quilt, that blue really completes it perfectly! My favorite jelly bean flavour is licorice.
What a beautiful quilt! WOW! Thanks for the info on jelly beans. I love lemon. I feel so much better eating my early Easter treat knowing it is Jellybean Day!
Allison gougeonathome@charter.net
I didn't know there was a special Jelly Bean day!!! I love ALL the flavors -- never met a jelly bean I didn't like!!
Your Star Quilt finish is definitely a reason to celebrate it is gorgeous. My husband and children love jellybeans and I usually take the rejected flavors. My favorite is licorice and thankfully no one else in the family likes them:) I would love to take part in your giveaway.
Red jelly beans for me LOVE em...
You quilt is beautiful caongrats on your finish. I am working on my son's quilt I started it before he was born and he is now 16 months old!!!!
Cheers Geniene
Linda, your star quilt is sooooo pretty! I have the same problem with finishing, plus I seem to get bored and constantly need something new and fresh - kind of annoying, that! thanks for the chance to win those beauties!
Favorite flavor? ALL OF THEM.. except black licorice.. yuck!! The more sugar the better LOL.. I can just put a whole handful in my mouth.. and call it good.. hee hee.. but the new kind by Jolly Rancher and Schmuckers with the super fruit flavors are especially yummy. The green apple.. yuuuummy!
My favorite jelly bean flavor is Buttered Popcorn! A couple of years ago (actually it was nearly 4 years!) I went through the Jelly Belly factory there in California. It was so much fun!
Congratulations on finishing the quilt. It is beautiful!
Beautiful quilt. Good job.
Beautiful fat quarters. They say spring to me.
I like fruit flavored jelly beans. Cherry ones are probably my favorites.
Your guilt is just lovely.
My favorite jelly beans are the spiced ones. Any color will do. Jelly bean day, I wonder who thought that up.
The quilt is absolutely beautiful!!! You should be celebrating!!! My favorite jelly bean is Juicy Pear by Jelly Belly :)
Your quilt is beautiful! Congratulations on finishing. I love Jelly Belly jelly beans! My faovrite: coconut.
Your quilt is beautiful! I think a giveaway is a perfect celebration for finishing it! :) I like jelly beans but never buy them...always opt for chocolate. But my favorite flavor would be lime or lemon.
Congratulations for the lovely quilt (another one)!.
My favorite jelly bean is CINNAMON, and then I like Cinnamon and finally I'll eat all the Cinnamon jelly beans!. So yuuuuuuummy!

Interesting information about jelly beans. I love them all except the licorice. AND, what a beautiful job you have done on the Minnesota Star Quilt. The colors are gorgeous.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win your generous giveaway. Now, I'm off to blog about it :)
The Minnesota Star quilt looks awesome. I can't wait to hear what she thinks about it now that it is all quilted. You did a fabulous job on it! Does it go to the daughter coming to visit this weekend?
My favorite jelly bean is pineapple. Yum!
Minnesota Star is wonderful! Congratulations on the finish! I know it feels soooo good to get long-term projects off the UFO list. :D But I don't think you should feel embarrassed at all about the timing. OH - jelly beans - I love watermelon ones best. :) No. Strawberry shortcake. Wait. Cherry?
My favorite flavor of jelly bean is watermelon from Jelly Belly. Yum! But really, really sweet.
...and I hope that my "no reply" blogger thing is now fixed.
Congrats on your finish! It is beautiful and I love your photos of it on the railing...especially the one right before the backing!
I like green jelly beans...so lime flavor I guess...or apple...depending on the brand!
Your quilt came out gorgeous! I'm a cherry jelly bean fan.
What a beautiful quilt and I'm sure the recipient will feel blessed no matter the timing.
I've always been partial to the purple jelly beans. You know the plain old non-gourmet kind that it's not really grape, but you know it's purple - LOL. The exotic flavors like watermelon or popcorn, etc... are fun to try, but, to me at least, they just aren't really jelly beans.
Thanks for the chance to win some goodies for my stash.
Your question made me chuckle! I don't buy jelly beans any more but when I did it was always a bag of BLACK JELLY BEANS. So now I steal 1 or 2 from someone's basket - they are still the best! I love the fabric - small flowers are one of my favorites.
The pink ones are my favorites (jelly bellies)
Your giveaway has been posted on my blog at

Congratulations on finishing the gorgeous quilt! My favorite jelly been flavor is licorice. Happy Easter!
Linda! We don't have jelly beans here!! But that won't stop me entering LOL. Just seen they have licorice so that's sorted then...they would be my favourites if I had ever had them! and your quilt is lovely.
The Black Jelly Beans are the only ones for this gal. Their licorice-y deliriousness wins my taste bud's vote any day of the week.
Congrats of the big finish of your MSQ, Linda.
Nothing like completion of a long-time-in-the-making project.
Hugs,
Gerry
Oh Linda! You made that for ME?!?! [wink] Cuz, I'm Kristin, you know?! And most people spell my name "e-n" so... just kidding!
I love that Missouri Star quilt! The colours are amazing and the blue just adds so much life and fun to the classic blocks! That's a huge project with tons of cutting! I am so happy for you, congrats on the finish!!!

Oh. My. Goodness. Your finished star quilt is just beautiful! I love how you presented it, too! I just can't say enough about how lovely the colors are, and the star pattern...just yummy. You did a wonderful job! (And I had one that waited twenty years to be finished! LOL)

Congratulations on finishing the quilt,it is so beautiful.
My all-time favourite are watermelon jelly beans
Your quilt turned out beautiful. I often just let a quilt go for a while and then finally get to it. I think most of the time, something else pushes in ahead of the quilt I wanted to get done.
My favorite jelly bean flavor is the orange. I really only like that one and the cherry so I don't eat too many of them that way!
Easter Blessings to you. Your quilt is absolutely lovely - your daughter will cherish it. I'm not a fan of eating jelly beans but they are pretty to look at. Thanks for a chance.
I love the pink jelly beans. That is the only ones I'll really go after.
I always loved the red jelly beans. I think maybe they are cherry flavored? Thanks for the chance on your giveaway! I absolutely love this fabric. It's so hard to find sweet, quaint fabric like this anymore.
Red jelly beans - congratulations on the completion of your quilt - my favorite photo that shows off the intricacy of the stars is the one with your DH's feet. Thanks for the giveaway.

I love your quilt... turned out beautifully! Congrats on the finish! No worries about how long it took... creativity happens in its own time.
My favorite jelly bean flavor is CINNAMON (Jelly Bellies) or the white and purple ones in the bag of regular jelly beans!!
Would you believe I don't like jelly beans? Does that mean I can't enter your giveaway?
Congratulations on finishing what I would call the never ending quilt. Ha! I have a few of those. The first quilt I ever started could easily be done in one sitting but nope. It sits.
My favorite traditional jelly bean flavor would be orange. yum! My favorite jelly belly flavor is any of the soda pop flavors. We love jelly beans in this house!
LOVE your Minnesota Star Quilt. :) Beautiful.
My favorite jelly bean flavor is coconut. :) Yum!
I Blogged about your giveaway: http://quiltyascharged.blogspot.com/2011/04/giveaway-at-stray-stitches_22.html
Jelly Beans are my ultimate favorite candy! In my family, my Dad and I fight over the black ones. In order, my favorite jelly bean flavors go by color like this: black, white, pink, red, purple, yellow then green. :P Basic jelly beans are my favorite, nothing fancy.
Your quilt is beautiful! Congrats on finishing it! :)
Congratulations.Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. Lucky daughter.
My favorite flavor is orange.
Congrats on your quilt finish! Well, I don't eat many jelly beans...I'd much rather have chocolate! But if I have to choose I pick orange...can't stand the black jelly beans...yuck!
I love mango jelly bellies! And your quilt is fabulous!!!
Your quilt is gorgeous!
Thanks for the chance at the fat quarters. My favorite jelly bean flavor is black licorice. =D YUM!

Oh my gosh Linda! I can't pick a FAVORITE jelly bean flavor, I like them all - almost. heehee
Well, OK, for today I'll say....licorice! I do like the black jelly beans.... ;^)
The quilt is delicious - congrats on your finish. Somewhere in all my 'stuff' is the second Log Cabin quilt top I ever made. And it's still just a top. ps: I started quilting about 20 years ago....shhhhh!
Have a happy wonderful weekend!
Your quilt is beautiful! I like the regular white jelly beans. I'm not sure what the flavour is supposed to be but they are good. I like the designer jelly beans too but seldom get them, so I haven't managed to even sort out what the flavours are, let alone pick a favourite. Thanks for a chance to win fabric :) And happy Easter.
Those FQs would make a darling quilt for a baby I know is coming soon!
My favorite jelly bean flavor is probably popcorn by Jelly Belly, but I always get the black jelly beans from the "cheap brands" as I love them and no one else I know even likes them.
Cherry! Just bought a bag today for the grandkids. (You believe that, right?!!)
Love you completed quilt.

Hi Linda, Love love love the quilt. We have some gourmet jelly beans here in Australia that come in 50 flavours. The family favourite is buttered pop corn, sounds funny in a jelly bean but is is quite nice. I like the Pina colada one. It takes me away to a lovely place.
I really like the quilt. It looks so complicated and yet it isn't!!! I love that in a quilt.
Jelly beans....cherry flavored is best!

Such a lovely quilt. You did a great job. Love the combination of blue and brown!
A black jelly bean would be my first pick, followed by cherry. Kind of reminds me of an embroidered square quilt I made years ago with red and black.
Your quilt is totally awesome beautiful! Love it!
The grape ones that taste like grape soda or those little wax bottles filled with icky but wonderful grape liquid. Happy Easter!

Good luck everyone and a very happy Easter to all xxx
My name is Robin and I am a jelly bean addict lol. I love all jelly beans but I think the Nerd jelly beans are my favorite.
Your Minnesota Star Quilt turned out great. Some quilts just seem to take longer than others. I have a stack of quilt tops that need to be finished but like you I always get side tracked by a new design or fabric that I just have to play with.
Happy Easter!!
Beautiful Quilt!
My favorite jellybean flavor is any of the red flavors....cherry, cinnamon...etc
HI Linda,
My favorite flavor jelly bean is either black ( licorice) or green( spearmint). I know that there are many more exotic flavors but I like the original flavors.

Wow! What a fabulous finish. I love how the blue just pops right off that quilt! Great work! Your daughter will treasure that forever.
My favorite jelly bean flavor used to be cotton candy. I don't eat them any more because I stay away from sugar as much as possible. Congrats on finishing your daughter's quilt. I'm sure she will love it!
Love the quilt, dom't feel too bad as I only just finished one of mine that had been lanquishing for 5 years waiting to be quilted and finished.
My most favourite jelly bean would have to be the black anniseed ones, the only trouble I have with them is it's hard to deny eating them when your tongue and lips are black from them LOL :) Barb.
I've had a few 'extended' finishes too! My favourite jelly bean is black...mmmmm...yum!
I really love any jelly bean flavor... literally... any. Even the Harry Potter ones that are like... grass, and dirt and weird stuff. I just love the chewyness of them. But I do try to stay away from them because Once I start, I just can't stop. :) I love those fabrics, very spring like!

Your Minnesota quilt is beautiful. You are still faster than I. My Hunter's Star quilt has been on my wall waiting to be finally put together for two years. I am working on it. My deadline is the end of June. This year.
My favorite jelly bean is lemon flavor.
Thanks for the giveaway.
Happy Easter Linda. Congrats on the finish.. love the quilt! Thanks for a chance to win fabric...yum... and green jelly beans would be my favourite..followed closely by yellow! Cheers :)
Congrats on your finish! It looks lovely :D
Unfortunately (or Fortunately ;D) we don't have jelly beans here, but I am sure I've had them when I was small - may be someone brought them from abroad.
I like strawberry flavor in most of the things.
And I love the colors of the fabrics you are giving away - Thanks for the chance!
Root beer is my favorite jelly bean flavor! Thanks for the chance!
I don't eat jelly beans, but, if I did, I'd like the lemon ones, since I love lemon drops. I've been thinking of making a Dresden plate quilt, and those fabrics would be perfect for a spring Dresden plate quilt.
A great finish, lovely fabric. And thanks for letting me know about Jellybean Day. I missed it. So to make up for it, I'm going to the store today to get some and an extra scoop of cherry red because that's my favourite.
I like coconut jelly beans!

Beautiful Quilt!
My favorite jelly bean flavor would be coconut! Yummy!
Thanks for a chance to win!
Well--I don't like jellybeans in general! But I can tolerate cherry ones.
coconut love the coconut - but ugh when I grab a "popcorn" one instead thanks.
My favourite is the black ones. They bring back such memories of my Dad.
I hope this does not disqualify me - I do not like jelly beans. I don't know why, I do not recall ever eating them as a kid either. I love sweet, but not jelly beans. Maybe I would like them now, I am sure they are better then the ones from my youth - just for you, I will look into this matter. lol
I love blue and brown together in a quilt; you fabric choices look lovely together.
Jelly beans? I like orange.
Thanks for your giveaway; I hope I'm as lucky as you are! lol
I don't know if this counts but I think my favorite would be a jelly belly flavor like cotton candy (first thing that came to mind when I thought about it).
Otherwise, it might be the orange or the pink.
Thank u for the giveaway opportunity - those are pretty fabrics.
~
Your quilt is beautiful!!! Love the fabrics you are giving away - I'm a flowery kind a girl! My favorite jelly bean is red - just plain, sweet, cherry tasting red!
Happy Stitching!

I think though it would be strawberry.

Your quilt is just gorgeous! I love the warm colours!! Wonderful job on it! :)
Sadly I'm allergic to the crap in jelly bens... lol! But when I was a kid and ate them, I loved the big fat mint ones best!!
I love your Minnesota Stars quilt Linda. It's just so lovely. As for jelly beans, I don't really eat them but if I do, I always go for the orange ones!
Thanks for the chance to win the fat quarters. Honestly I can't stand jelly beans. My husband on the other hand can't get enough - doesn't matter flavor, but he says the starburst ones are the best!

Your quilt is gorgeous, I can't stop looking at it.
My favourite jelly bean flavour is vanilla, or strawberry. Pretty boring compared to some, but there you go :-)

jelly beans are fun, I think green is my favourite flavour.
Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.
Lemon! Great giveaway and congrats on finishing!
I announced your giveaway on my blog under the tab 'Giveaway"
I think my favorite might be jelly belly cherry, but almost all the jelly bellies are so good! I hate licorice (black) and I don't like the spotty peppermint ones, but otherwise, they are all yummy.
I love your Minnesota Star. The colors are so warmly comforting, and it looks great. Lucky recipient! Congratulations on finishing, and thanks for offering the giveaway.
Beautiful Quilt!!

My first favorite flavor Jelly Belly is Popcorn and my second is Jalapeno LOL

Linda, thank you for the chance to win. Unfortunately I cannot eat jelly beans since I have a very delicate stomach and I cannot digest them. But if I could eat them I would eat coffee ones if they are even made.

Ah Jelly Beans, Thankfully my son does not have a blog. He is 15 and quilts but doesn't blog. I know he would pick one of the terrible BeanBoozled flavors, ya not liking the barf jelly bean YUCK.
I do love the Buttered Popcorn jelly bean YUM!
Thanks for hosting a giveaway. Too much fun.
Complete side note. My mom is severely allergic to sugar, this last year our family took a tour of the Jelly belly factory in California, I am telling you the air outside smells sweet, she got sick from walking the tour lol. The kids were in heaven!!!

Your sew is lovely! I like the customary white jam beans. I don't know what the flavor should be yet they are great. I like the fashioner jam beans as well however from time to time get them, so I haven't figured out how to try and deal with what the flavors are, not to mention pick a top choice. A debt of gratitude is in order for an opportunity to win texture
happy valentines day 2019
awesome... thanks for the sharing, it can be very usefull for me
