It's Two Of Two

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
~Anne Bradstreet

It's Friday.  The last Friday of the month.  Only today and tomorrow left in April.  It's almost time to start a new month.  Where did the time go?  Spring arrived and is now ready to give way to summer.  Winter is but a memory - well, at least  here in central California.  All the trees are green, the tulips have faded, and buds are forming on the rose bushes.  I've completed a few projects and started others.  I broke an old habit and hopefully won't start another.  Ebb and flow, inhale and exhale - life continues.  As we wrap up another month think about the happiness you have shared with others, about what those little things that may have brought a smile to your face.  Tuck these memories away for another time, perhaps when you need a little joy in your life in May.

PHOTO FACT OF THE DAY

Zippers

National Zipper Day, marking the day in 1913 when the zipper was patented in the United States. Coincidentally, this came just moments before the first known utterance of the words "Larry, barn door's open."  Simpler than the snap and more trusted than Velcro, the zipper beats the button any day. Unless the slider gets stuck on some fabric on the way up, the zipper is the fastest clothing and luggage fastener in the west! The zipper beat out the button in the 1937 'Battle of the Fly' when designers went crazy for the newest innovation in men's trousers. Esquire magazine predicted the zipper would reduce the incidence of accidentally leaving one's fly open, but as years of jeans wearing have revealed, there's no invention that can save us from making that mistake.

TWO OF TWO

Yesterday I completed the second baby quilt....

All rolled and ready for the unveiling......

Blowing in the wind......
As you can see, the second of the twins is named Julia....

Both of the quilts revealing their backsides.....

Battling for dominance already.....

The yin and the yang, the light and the dark.  Both quilts are ready for the two adorable, little redheaded twins, Grace and Julia.

FINAL THOUGHT

With a sad heart I have been watching all of the news reports on the destruction that has taken place across the country from me.  I can not begin to fathom what those people are going through.  So many lives have been lost and so many more are now homeless and/or injured.  Nature can be so cruel and unforgiving.  Hopefully the healing can begin soon, power restored and shelter provided for those who are in need.  It makes me appreciate my life just that much more.  It makes me realize that no matter what we invent or what we create, nature will have the upper hand.  We have seen this through the power of the earthquakes in Japan, the hurricanes in the Gulf, and now the tornadoes and torrential rains in the central and southern part of our country.  May those of you who have been affected by these terrible events know that you are being remembered in our prayers and thoughts.  May your lives return to normal soon.

Hope is the word which God has written on the brow of every man.

Think happy thoughts, for it is Friday!

I laughed over the zippers - my youngest son has always had trouble with the 'barn door open' and even closing in on 30yrs. old - still has to be nudged.

Such sweet little quilts - love how you reversed the effect of the two.

Amen to your closing - I am still trying to contact people in some areas - hopefully today is a good news day. Have a wonderful weekend

Grace and Julia are lucky little girls to receive such cute quilts.

I too have watched the news over the last few months and felt so sad over all the destruction all over the world. I have 2 daughters and their families in the toronado areas and we talk daily to keep track of how they are.
Just read yesterdays blog and noticed you won again! You are one lucky woman!

WHOO HOO on the quilts! They are both awsome!!

Ooo what mini wall hanging are you working on?

My heart sinks too with all the weather related news. I'm trying to find something to do, but right now the best thing is donate to the Red Cross. So many families affected.

Have a wonderful weekend Linda!

The baby quilts are adorable... and I know will be loved and cherished in the years to come!

Zippers may have been a boon to men's trousers but they have certainly revolutionized women's wear as well!

Your baby quilts are SO sweet. Those red-haired twins will be dragging them around with them forever.

Your zippers inspired my blog post on sophie junction today. Thanks!

I love those quilts! Is there a way to get Nate & Mason's names on their quilt or is that something that has to be done before the pieces are put together? I like how you did the colors opposite to eachother. All the stuff going on in the world is horrible...Mother Nature must be PISSED about something! Makes me super happy to live in NM where there aren't many natural disasters (yet).

Linda,
You always have such a great list of giveaways - Thanks for the links.
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
I too am saddened by so many natural disasters that people are trying to cope with around the globe. The pictures are just so sad- I can't imagine how terrifying it would be for people in the affected places around the globe.
Regards,
Anna

I love the baby quilts. And thanks for the reminder to keep the positive happy memories to reflect on later when we need some cheering up. I had a great time in Oregon with my boys and their girlfriends...laughing and having fun...those are the memories I'm storing up!

Zippers are a good thing indeed. :)

Your two baby quilts are sweet for those precious twins. :)

My heart goes out those who have suffered in the storms as well. It does make one thankful for the blessing we have.

Love the quilts you made for the twins! Those little girls will treasure your beautiful handiwork.

I, along with many, will be relieved after "tornado season" passes. Unimaginable destruction in Alabama. Local weather forecasters thought Arkansas might encounter fierce, killer tornadoes during the wee hours on Thursday. We decided it would be safest to put our two parrots and a parakeet to bed in our fortified safe room (also a closet). I bet our pets wonder what's going on. Our dog, however, senses the approach of thunderstorms and follows my every move step for step.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
