It's Monday! Like you needed to be reminded. How was your weekend? My Saturday was busy but Sunday was rather restful. Saturday morning was our normal run to the Farmer's Market where I probably over bought because of not being able to go the previous weekend. I felt like I was in a fresh produce drought last week - lol. Next we were off to the Cruise 99, a car show being held downtown. There were some absolutely spectacular cars on display (pictures further down in the blog). Then to lunch and on to our ALS Support Group meeting. There we said good-bye to our case manager of 5 years and met the incoming case manager. Two hours later we were on the road to Petsmart - have to feed Weasley and Snickerdoodle! And finally home about 4:30. A very full day and I was pooped. Sunday was much more relaxing even if it was wash day. We were able to sit outside for a couple of hours enjoying the Sunday paper and a cup of coffee. I managed to complete one more hexagon flower for my GFG quilt (picture on One Flower Wednesday) and started assembling the garden. We caught up on some shows on the DVR (we're over a week behind) and just generally vegged.
Photo Of The Day:
Coast Redwood in our backyard
Coast redwoods range from southern Oregon to central California, extending not more than fifty miles inland- only as far as the coastal climate has its influence. Fog plays a vital role in the survival of these trees, protecting them from the summer drought conditions typical of this area. They also need abundant winter rain and moderate year round temperatures. In ideal conditions a coast redwood can grow 2-3 feet in height annually, but when the trees are stressed from lack of moisture and sunlight they may grow as little as one inch per year. We have 7 of these trees in our little backyard. This is my attempt at bringing the mountains to our valley home.

Here are a few of the cars that we saw at the car show on Saturday:

Friday's mail brought me my first block from the Australian Block Swap. An envelope arrived from Cathy, who lives in Golden Grove South Australia. She sent me a beautiful green and white block in the Blazing Arrows block that I requested. She included a post card "Greetings From Adelaide" with a picture of the Rundle Mall.
Isn't it pretty!?!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I previously mentioned, I was able to start assembling my Garden for my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. My 'stepping stones' are just a plain white but I thought that it was the best way to really make the bright colors of my flowers pop.
I can't even imagine how many flowers or stepping stones it will take to make a full quilt. But I haven't set myself any time limits and am thoroughly enjoying creating each and every flower.
Final Thought
When I started this blog I thought having just 5 followers would be an amazing accomplishment - and, even then I thought I would have to beg family members to sign on. Once I reached 100 followers I thought that would be the top goal I could attain. But you all have made me so happy by becoming my followers, whether daily readers or if you just stop by for the occasional visit. I am blessed to have each and every one of you in my life. So many of you already seem like close friends just from our little comments to each other via email. I know that I won't ever meet the majority of you, but I want you all to know I honestly do appreciate your comments and friendship through my daily journeys called life. You bring a special sunshine to my day!! Thank you all so very much for becoming a follower of Stray Stitches!!
Cha Cha (my cat) is a bit confused. She can't figure out why I don't leave like I normally do. I am wondering which of her cat plans my staying home is putting an end to! Happy quilting.
Wow that is fantastic to reach 200 followers!
I am always up late at night with insomnia, one very great thing is that I get quiet time all to myself and time to read all the blogs in peace and quiet.
Congratulations! Thanks for the chance to win such lovely fabric!
Absolutely gorgeous fabrics! I'm following your blog now so it's over 200, fantastic. I'm sewing up some Christmas gifts this week. Got a Christmas tree skirt panel on my pilgrimage to the Great American Quilt Factory, because my soon to be daughter-in-law loved it. It needed a backing, so I am piecing a backing for it in brilliant Christmas fabrics, the tree skirt will be reversible. Then I'm going to go crazy with embelishments on the panel side. It's really cute, Santa and polar bears and penguins, a North Pole kind of scene, lots of snowflakes. So really just enjoying the beautiful fabrics available. Why do I quilt? The fascination with color and design, love of fabrics and their endless combinations, the desire to create. Love it, love it.
Congratulations. I love the quote at the top of your blog. So very true!
Congratulations on reaching 200 followers. I'll bet with this giveaway you get at least 50 more. And you're so generous with your giveaway, these are yummy fabrics.
Congratulations on 200 followers! Great giveaway...very pretty fabric.
Today I am laid up :-( I fell yesterday and have a severely sprained ankle. Went to ER last night, nothing broken or torn thank goodness but am in an air cast and crutches for a while. Time to get out some hand-work.
Congrats on reaching 200. It's such a nice sounding number. I would love to win the fabric because they would make a great 1930/1940's quilt.
I love to read everyone's blogs - what they are doing and such. Never have posted back, this is a new one for me. I spend way y y too much time on line, really need to get more quilting done. I am going to do PatchworkTimes mystery and Erics Homemade Christmas mystery.Erics' other mystery was the first mystery I did along without seeing the final results.
Congratulations on the Followers! I think I'm 2oo and somthing. Great blog, I enjoy reading it! Today I'm SUPPOSED to be doing paperwork that I have put off for a long, long time. But, instead I'm keeping the dogs quiet in my sewing room while my rotted deck gets replaced and in my space I am reading blogs and sewing. And, I am planning to go get a piece of fabric for a Bee I'm in. Have a lovely day!
Please enter me in your giveaway. The car show looks like it would be a lot of fun. I love the look of the gold/yellow car (the one in the middle). How cool would it be to have one of them? Your friend is lucky.
I love the fabrics in this giveaway. And you have really inspired me to try hex's with your new project. The bright colors just pop - ohhh so beautiful. I think my mom would love a quilt like this, maybe my aunt too, and my daughter - lol. may have to make several. I've never done hex's so it will be a learning experience.
I'm currently finishing up my sewing room renovation - moving in tables and supplies this week. Yay - so happy to get back to work doing things. : )I am a follower of this list. It's wonderful.
Hello Linda! Found your blog through Faith, Hope, Cherrytea's blog. Coincidentally, I'm also having a 200th follower giveaway, along with my "Fall into Fall" giveaway, which will be ending at 8pm eastern time tonight. Isn't this so much fun? Will be posting about your giveaway on my blog right now.
Hi again Linda! Just blogged about your giveaway over on my blog!
http://countrycabinthoughtsandcrafts.blogspot.com/2010/10/another-200th-follower-giveaway-going.html
Congrats with the 200+ followers !! Currently I'm not doing much except taking care of my Dh who had a knee operation 1 week ago, so he needs alot of helps. So not much quilting and stiotching for me these days !
I love the fabric of your give away, I'm now colecting fabrics with leave prints for my Farmers Wife sampler quilt which I want to make with all kind of autumn fabric.
I have mentioned your give away on my blog http://cazwa.blogspot.com/, look at the sidebar on the left. Hope you will have alot more followers :-)
Hi, Linda! Congratulations on 200 - I'm rapidly approaching that number myself, and it is a good feeling! In just the past year, I've started quilting, started a quilt ministry at my church, and finally feel like I'm doing what I've trained all my life to do! I think blogs are one of the world's great inventions, because I've learned so much and made so many wonderful friends! (There, that's a little about me - probably more than you wanted to know!)
Hi Linda, just found your blog following the link from another blog. I started quilting about 6 months ago so it's all new to me at the moment. I am learning all the time, thank goodness for the internet. I live in France but am originally from the UK. Linda
Thanks for the chance to enter your giveaway. I like to quilt because of my grandmother. She made some fancy quilts in her day but she mostly made utility scrap quilts. She put anythings into them, including old clothes. I made one with her when I was 12 and quilting now makes me think of her.
What gorgeous fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win. The weather outside is frightful--dreary and windy and trying to rain. Perfect hide in the sewing room and sew weather. I am piecing 3 tops at the same time. Short attention span.
L,A-
Hi from Australia, Linda. Yes, across the pond. LOL. I read about your swap with a lady in South Australia. I am in New South Wales, north of Sydney. :-)
It is Spring here but we have had a cold snap and had to get the winter woolies out again!
I love quilting, handpiecing and needleturn applique. Love traditional style quilts best of all, and adore pretty florals. Bye for now, Sandy.
sandangels1945@hotmail.com
Hi Linda! I'm a new quilter who is loving seeing all the beautiful things other quilters are coming up with! Those flowers you are making in that stepping stone quilt are beautiful... can't wait to watch you progress through that! I agree, the white makes the flowers really pop!!!!
Congrats on 200 posts!!!
Congratulations on 200 followers, that's pretty impressive. The weather here is beautiful, 73 degrees with a light breeze, makes it hard to stay inside and quilt. I'm having a visit from my daughter who is in grad school, so I don't get to see her very much. It's going to be a wonderful weekend.
Congratulations on reaching 200!! Quite a feat! And those hexies are charming!! You're right - the white makes 'em pop. Those cars are quite pretty too - sounds like you had a full day..
We're still at 90* days, so it's hardly fall, tho it gets cooler in the evenings. I must be honest - I'd LOVE to win those fabrics, so thanks for the opportunity!!
Wow, congratulations on 200 followers! I am new to blogging and can't quite imagine that many followers! I have been quilting since I was (almost) ten, I learned with a group of girls on Sunday's after church. I wasn't really invited to join but I found out about it and basically begged to go! I technically wasn't 10 which was why I wasn't asked but Mrs. M let me come anyway. I LOVED it!! after all of these years I am the only one in that group of girls who actually kept quilting after those Sunday classes ended. Some 20 odd years later I made a quilt for my Mom and Dad after they both had heart surgery. My Mom thought she should show Mrs. M. so she called and invited her over to see. Mrs. M was teary and could not believe that it was because of her that my parents now had this beautiful quilt to keep warm with as they recovered! She still talks about how that MADE her year...knowing she had gifted a child with the ability to quilt! I think I am the one who is lucky , if she wouldn't have let me come....I would never have learned to quilt!
Thanks for letting us share something!
Going from one giveaway to another is great! Thank you for joining in on the 'Fall into Fall Giveaway' this past 2 weeks. I found your blog since you found mine! Love the Hoffmann fabrics!
Those are going to make a gorgeous flower garden quilt! I really like the green and white design. I wonder what that would look like in a full quilt.
Wow would I love those fabrics.
