Bet you didn't even know I was gone! Thank goodness for blogger I was able to prepare postings in advance and then have them post on the days I wanted. We just spent five days in Las Vegas attending the Pro Bull Riding Finals. We had an absolutely wonderful time. Gambled a little, ate too much, and watched three days of bull riding! This was the most relaxing time we have ever had in Sin City. Pictures further down in the post.

Picture of the Day
Salvia in my backyard
Blue Salvia (also known as Mealy-Cup Sage) has a wonderfully long blooming period and looks absolutely incredible planted in mass or in containers. An excellent cut or dried flower, Victoria Blue Salvia has particularly deep purple/blue flowers and is a dwarf, attaining a height of only 18 inches. Does well in hot, humid climates. Drought tolerant - grows on dry hillsides in it's native Texas and New Mexico. Butterflies and hummingbirds just love this plant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As stated above, we had an absolutely fantastic time in Las Vegas. We didn't stay on or go to The Strip or Downtown. We stayed at the far end of the city at South Point - also the lodging place of many of the PBR members such as the bull fighters and commentators. I won't bore you with a whole bunch of pictures but I did put together a few collages. You can click on the pictures to see a larger view.
Assorted views of the scenery we viewed on the trip to and from Las Vegas. If you would like info on an exact picture, please let me know.
Different views of The Strip as we passed by on the freeway. I was overcast for most of our stay so most of the pictures are rather muted.
Different bull riders and entertainers. I was even able to have my picture taken with a few of the bull riders. They are all such great, down-to-earth young men!
This is just a quick glimpse of the Finals. So much fun!! It was hard to get a decent picture of the actual bull riding as the lighting was low and there is so much action.
I hope you weren't too bored with my little picture trip.
GIVEWAYS
THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED
I am waaaaaaaaaay behind on reading blogs and so haven't been keeping up to date on giveaways out there. If you would like me to include your giveaway in my posting for tomorrow, just let me know and it will be included.
So, since I don't know of any giveaways - how about if I have a giveaway of my own. Let's call this the "Just Because" giveaway - because I can and because I want to!! I'm giving away 5 fall colored fat quarters from my own collection. I guess you could say I'm de-stashing a little. I should probably do this more often but this is it for this giveaway.
To enter this giveaway just leave me a comment telling me what your favorite animal is and why (something different - right?). You do not have to be a follower (I would love it if you would become one) or have a blog. However, please make sure that there is some way to reach you. If you have a no-reply then make sure you leave an email in your comment. If I can't get in contact with you, then you will be eliminated as a possible winner. This giveaway closes Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. PST. I will use random.org to select the winner. Good luck to you all!!!!!
Final Thought
This morning while starting this blog, our main computer became ill :( Hopefully the techie will be able to come out today to fix it. Now I'm using the laptop which I have a love/hate relationship with. So now you know the reason for my blog being posted late today. For today I will leave you with this final quote:
Those parts of the system that you can hit with a hammer (not advised) are called hardware; those program instructions that you can only curse at are called software.
Linda, what a fun giveaway! We do not currently have any pets, but I guess my favorite animal would be puppies. I think they are loving loyal friends and they make great companions. We had Airedales years ago, and not only were they great pets, they were very protective. Thanks for including me in your sweet giveaway.
I'm gonna have to go with a baby pig being my favorite animal right now. Just came across some stuffed animals of mine from when I was little and it reminded me of how cute lil pigs are.
Well, my favorite of all time animals is my little Cotton Patch (my bunny). She is snuggly, and cute, and such sweet company for me when my sweet man is gone working. She sits in my lap on her little quilt while I sew away on my bigger quilts. Sew...are there really any other animals?
I think not. :)
Thank you for the great giveaway! I have a fall quilt to make and could use it!
Well as I have two dogs I guess it has to be dogs. I now have a cross Spaniel and a Jack Russell one of my favourite dogs is the Red Setter. We had a Red Setter when we first got married and she lived to be 17.1/2. But I don't think it matters which breed the dogs are it's their personality that counts really. Thanks for the lovely giveaway. Linda
Love my cats and dogs but have a big soft spot for bunnies! Thanks for a chance in your lovely giveaway.
Wolves - I have a chow/wolf mix, who is 14 years old.
Elephants - all over my house, not sure why I like them.
Favorite animal? I'd have to say dogs - I love my Shih Tzu/Maltese. Such a goofy little dog, and his big brown eyes melt my heart.
What a fabulous trip! The scenery is just beautiful! My favorite animal is my little Jack Russell Chloe. She is very spunky and sometimes so downright crazy! She makes me laugh alot with some of the silly things she does. Oter times she is just very cuddly to sit with.In the winter our house is very cold and she wears a little tank top that says rock star. SO cute! Chloe seems to have an endless appetite and never seems to gain much weight. (Lucky Dog)Thanks for a nother great giveaway and sharing your lovely vacation!
My favorite animal is a frog. I don't really know why, but I have been collecting frog things since I was little! They are so cute!
This is my first visit to your blog...I found you through another...I enjoyed reading your posts...I will be back!! Thanks for sharing :0)
I receive the feed to your blog through Google Reader and enjoy your posts. The de-stashing fabrics in this giveaway would add much needed variety to my ho-hum collection to older tone-on-tones.
My favorite animal? That is sooo easy: My cat!
Thanks for your giveaway.
i'll have to look into the blue salvia for our climate. it sure is pretty!
you were visiting my home state although i don't live near vegas at all . . . i live in the mountains of northeastern nv where it just happens to be snowing today.
:-)
My hubby was there this week too and saw all of the bull riders. Looks like it was a good trip. We seldom stay on the Strip ourselves.
Favorite animal would have to be a monkey. I always wanted one as a kid, but am glad to NOT have one now.
Just found you, what a good day to find you. Please enter me. My favorite animal is my dog, adelaide. I love all animals though.
I love the title of your blog. I am signing up to follow. Drop by my blog sometimes too.
Have a great week,
Kim
Why black cats, of course! Happy quilting!
I totally love Miniature Schnauzers!!! I had one growing up and I have another now. Best family dogs ever. Thanks for the chance to win! This West Virginia quilter is currently in Las Vegas for a conference!!! But I have some hand quilting with me!!
It's a hard decision for me which animal I like the best but at this point in time I would say I like the unicorn. If it has to be a live animal then it's a donkey.
My comment disappeared... My favorite animal is a deer. We watch for them every day - in our lane, the field, or along the yard. BTW I live on a farm - my brother is 3-Gen catteman. No bull riders in the family though. Calf ropers and steer wrestling instead. Thanks for the giveaway. alternate email mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com
My favorite animal is a goat. They are just so cute, funny and ornery. Someday I would love to get a couple goats.
My favorite animal is my little doggie Daisy. She is so loving and is always by my side. I also really like hamsters, although they reproduce way too much!!
I used to live in Garland, Tx and had a good friend whose cousin was married to Donnie Gay. At that time he was a big bull rider. Ever heard of him?
Thanks for holding the giveaway.
Thank you for the giveaway.
My favorite animal is a cougar. My sister and brother in-law used to raise exotic animals and when they had the cougars that were newborn and bottle fed it was sooooo cool. And to watch them grow into full grown animals was amazing
Love that you've created your own giveaway Linda! Very fun! My favourite animal would be giraffes because they are graceful and knock-kneed all at once! And they have kind looking faces!
Very cool that you got to see the PBR...my BFF's brother used to do rodeo! Those people are crazy but the nicest folks ever!!!
Welcome back! Enjoyed your pic's too! Please enter ny name in your giveaway...THANK YOU... and I love the magpie larks that come to eat at my home everyday. They are cheeky and can sing beautifully.A delight to watch!
:)
Hi Linda. Glad you had fun in LV. I am definitely a cat lover, but I also love our little Pomeranian, Buddy. He is much more rambunctious than our kitties, but he makes me smile. Now if he and Callie could just become friends. LOL
I would so love to go to those finals! We only get to see little competitions around here and not very often at that! Thankfully there is PBR on TV! Still, bulls would not be my favorite animal. That would have to be dogs. I know, no very original. But I can not tell a lie. They are so loving. "We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare, and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made." -M. Acklam. Welcome home!
How fun!!! It looks like a blast! :) Favorite animal?? Hmmm, probably horses right now, I really wish we were able to have a bigger property and have our own horses! That would be so much fun for the kids. :)
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! The fabrics look amazing!!
~Teresa
I like this kind of a giveaway... simple but gives you a chance to think on a different level. My favorite animal is a rabbit, they are quiet, soft, I love their floppy ears, and they don't have messy poops!! Great giveaway - thanks for the chance!!
I love puppies. We had a dog for 13 years and had to put he down. I love animals but will not have anymore because I can not deal with their deaths which always happen.
Add me to the list. Love the fabric. My favorite animal is a cat. They are so warm, loving, have a mind of their own, love it when they stretch...I could go on. However, I can't have one anymore because my son-in-law is really allergic to them. He always says he knew he was to marry my daughter because her 17 year old cat passed away just before he proposed!
yummy fabric - Thanks for the chance!
I love Squirrels & Rabbits - because they look so innocent:D
Great photo collages!
I love rabbits - they are so soft and peaceful.
Thanks for the chance!!
A turtle has always been my favourite animal... not sure why... maybe because they can carry their home with them LOL
caitlindevlin@hotmail.com
My son has a chinchilla that is just so soft and cute, guess that's my favorite now. Love the fat quarters.
I like giraffs; as a kid of 5 yrs, I remember drawing a giraff and coloring it brown with yellow spots instead of viseversa...got laughs from people and I have liked giraffs since.
My favorite animal is the whitetail deer but not for the reason you might think. I like to go deer hunting and my family loves venison. Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway. The fat quarters are beautiful.
I am new to this but I understand the word "Giveaway" so please sign me up! Thanks, Ida
oops forgot to tell you about my favorite animal.....guess I will say "kittycat" because that is the only kind of pet I have.....easy to please.....easy to go away a few days....she takes care of herself!
I have to say sweet little kittens are my favorite. I love their feisty spirit!
I love little chipmunks! We have quite a few in this area and they are so cute to see! They make you smile...if you can be quick enough to see them! ♥
I love giraffes. don't really know why - always have. Can't pass up the stuffed ones at rummage sales - have lots! Thanks for the giveaway.
Hello, I have just found you and oh yes am going to be a follower. Wonderful giveaway. I would say my favorite animal would have to be 2 the deer and squirrels in our apple trees. i love to watch them
Wow! I bet you had fun watching the PBR. My husband and I watch them when we can and one of our favorite announcers is Don Gay. Thanks for the giveaway. My favorite animal would be my cat.
Well, I currently have a wonderful litter of dust bunnies that I am nurturing. They live under my bed and are better behaved these days, perhaps because the chilly weather means the fans are no longer getting them riled up.
Occassionally they have spiders over to play, the little cobwebs their spidey friend leave make wonderful hammocks for the dust bunnies to rest in!
They like to play games with the stray threads and such that drift in there from my sewing room. Just the other day, they rolled a lovely little ball of colorful dust bunny and thread fluff out to show me. If it would stick, I would post their art efforts on the refridgerator.
Alas, like children, my pet dust bunnies are growing up very fast. When they get big enough I will have to kick them out to start their own homes.
ps, I also love to watch the neighborhood cats hanging out under my bird feeders... and am glad they are lazy, contented cats who are not good hunters!
We have always had 1 or 2 cats. We tried getting a dog once, but they don't like to be left alone all day while we are at work. Maybe after retirement, we will get a dog. I'll have to ask the cat if this is alright! Thank you for the giveaway.
I am fascinated by pot belly pigs. A family friend had one as a household pet. Ran in and out of the house with the dog. Slept on the living room floor just like the dog. He was sooo cute! (And smart!)
nsue21702 at gmail dot com
My favorite animal would be cats and dogs but if i had to pick one, it would be the mini poodle, not too big and not too small. I had one when I was little and she was very smart and loveable. WOnderful giveaway. Looks like your trip was a lot of fun.
I LOVE cats...I have a very spoiled cat...she's 14 years old and thinks she human. I love the attitude that a cat will have...
I don't know how I missed this post. We have to cats we got from the SPCA in 2000. Cali and Dusti we love them. I've always had cats, but when my husband retires we're thinking of getting a dog.
I love cats! Their affectionate, good listeners, great bed warmers, good for shredding, and wonderful singers.
Even though I have a cat and love her to pieces, I love dogs too. And when I was a kid, we always had parakeets and little turtles. I wish I lived on a farm with goats, horses, sheep, etc. I think I could love them all.
