Fall Into Fall Quilters GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Bittersweet October.  The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.
                                                                ~Carol Bishop Hipps

It's the first day of October!  And it's time for the Fall Into Fall Quilters Giveaway!!  Are your ready?!?  Of course you are.  But first a quick update:  Mom is healing but is quite spacey on morphine.  Yesterday she said that my sister and I both had freckles - neither of us do.  Then she said she saw butterflies in her room.  Ah, the wonders of drugs.  Last night DS got a call that Mom was trying to pull out all of the tubes and IVs - I think she's had enough.  We will see what today brings.  Thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts for Mom's quick recovery.

Photo Of The Day:

Orange spider gerbera in my front yard

The color orange:  Orange is vibrant. It's a combination of red and yellow so it shares some common attributes with those colors. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun. But orange has a bit less intensity or aggression than red, calmed by the cheerfulness of yellow.  Orange brings up images of autumn leaves, pumpkins, and (in combination with Black) Halloween. It represents the changing seasons so in that sense it is a color on the edge, the color of change between the heat of summer and the cool of winter.  Because orange is also a citrus color, it can conjure up thoughts of vitamin C and good health.  Orange, a perfect color for the first day of October.

I did manage to complete 3 hexagon flowers for my GFG quilt while sitting in the hospital yesterday.

I'm only giving you hints of the bottom two since I am saving those to show on One Flower Wednesdays!

Final Thoughts

October turns our thoughts toward Halloween, followed quickly by Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Autumn is one of my favorite times of year as it means we will finally be heading into cooler weather, the leaves will be changing into their color splendor, the days will be shorter, and we will have a fleeting look at few different birds as they begin their migration south.  I would like to share a recent poem I found the sums up autumn rather nicely:
"October's Party"
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
                                                                                       ~George Cooper

Have a wonderful, warm, wise, and winning Wednesday!

Let's see, my favorite thing about Fall is when the leaves start turning. Living in the northeast, we have some of the best fall foliage and it makes driving to work a whole lot prettier!!

My favorite thing about writing a blog is having a place to dump all my crafty accomplishments. I don't have many followers, but I am cool with that. I keep my blog low stress for me and I love having an outlet to share fun things.

I read a lot of different types of blogs, everything from finance, quilting, scrapbooking, photgraphy, to just funny blogs about people's lives. I don't read every single post on all these blogs, but I like peering into people's lives, I like learning new things, and maybe finding a new way to look at the wrold. Blogs are like reality shows except they have a bit more reality to them.

My 33-year old daughter's favorite holiday is Halloween, and she's giving a hum-dinger of a party this year. Sunday, Halloween, we might go to my mom's to celebrate her bday which is on Nov. 3rd and she and I both love Halloween and Fall so much, it will be fun to celebrate together.

I love being able sit outside and have a fire in the cool autumn weather. There's something peaceful about it.

when I'm reading blogs I'm looking for ideas and inspiration.

I love blogging for the "release"

In 6 years of living in this location I've had less than 10 trick or treaters. But each year I dress up as a witch and sit outside with my cauldron burning and all the makings for s'mores. When no one shows - I have a grand ol' sugar high!

My favorite thing about fall is MY BIRTHDAY! I was born on October 23 and have had lots of delightful times celebrating the season :-) I love it when the Jewish High Holidays fall around my birthday, too--double fun :-D

This Halloween my new beau and I plan on hitting Atlanta with one of his siblings. We are trying to figure out a clever couples costume, but everything seems so cliche. Any ideas? :-)

There are a lot of reasons I like blogging. First, I love writing my blog because it gives me a record of all I do. Also, it helps keep my family informed of my creations, especially when they're far away. Creating tutorials helps me organize my thinking. I feel like blogging helps me become a better communicator, and better communicators are better teachers! :-)

When I look at other blogs, I look for either new techniques or for inspiration. Most of the time, I feel like blogs are an easy-access art gallery experience. I don't take what I've seen and copy, but I love seeing how my expectations of what is possible are broadened through seeing what others are doing :-)

I love that the heat of summer is over and everything is turning warm vibrant colors. My favorite is to walk in fallen leaves and hear them crackle under my feet.

I enjoy keeping track of the quilts I have made, my progress on projects, and it also makes me want to start and finish more so that I can post them.

I read blogs to get inspiration for another quilt, or to see how my blogging friends are doing and what they have been working on. I really love to see quilts and the process quilters take finding just the right fabric, or pattern, or quilting design to make something so beautiful and functional at the same time.

My favorite thing about Autumn is the changing of the leaves.

My son's birthday is Oct. 30th, so we are usually still celebrating his birthday on Halloween.
