Fall Into Fall Quilters GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Bittersweet October.  The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.
                                                                ~Carol Bishop Hipps

It's the first day of October!  And it's time for the Fall Into Fall Quilters Giveaway!!  Are your ready?!?  Of course you are.  But first a quick update:  Mom is healing but is quite spacey on morphine.  Yesterday she said that my sister and I both had freckles - neither of us do.  Then she said she saw butterflies in her room.  Ah, the wonders of drugs.  Last night DS got a call that Mom was trying to pull out all of the tubes and IVs - I think she's had enough.  We will see what today brings.  Thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts for Mom's quick recovery.

Photo Of The Day:

Orange spider gerbera in my front yard

The color orange:  Orange is vibrant. It's a combination of red and yellow so it shares some common attributes with those colors. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun. But orange has a bit less intensity or aggression than red, calmed by the cheerfulness of yellow.  Orange brings up images of autumn leaves, pumpkins, and (in combination with Black) Halloween. It represents the changing seasons so in that sense it is a color on the edge, the color of change between the heat of summer and the cool of winter.  Because orange is also a citrus color, it can conjure up thoughts of vitamin C and good health.  Orange, a perfect color for the first day of October.

I did manage to complete 3 hexagon flowers for my GFG quilt while sitting in the hospital yesterday.

I'm only giving you hints of the bottom two since I am saving those to show on One Flower Wednesdays!

Final Thoughts

October turns our thoughts toward Halloween, followed quickly by Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Autumn is one of my favorite times of year as it means we will finally be heading into cooler weather, the leaves will be changing into their color splendor, the days will be shorter, and we will have a fleeting look at few different birds as they begin their migration south.  I would like to share a recent poem I found the sums up autumn rather nicely:
"October's Party"
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
                                                                                       ~George Cooper

Have a wonderful, warm, wise, and winning Wednesday!

My favorite thing about autumn is The Pumpkin House. A man not far from here carves and lights over 4000 pumpkins each year! So much fun!

We do a lot of decorating, have a little party and usually have about 800 trick-or-treaters. Fun!

I read a large variety of blogs, and enjoy reading about their interests. I love quilting and sewing blogs, I learn so much from them. New techniques and tips, new trends, and new patterns!

Fall is possibly my favourite time of year. I love the colours, the warm sunny days and cool nights, the sounds of leaves falling, the smells of berries (especially high bush cranberries).

Janet said...

I haven't seen your blog before but I've become a follower now.

I don't have plans for Halloween. It's Sunday evening so DH and I will have dinner and relax before the beginning of a work week. We always do a little decorating and buy goodies but we seldom have many kids come by as we live semi-remotely.

Janet said...

I've always liked keeping a journal. With blogging I can use pictures (every picture tells a story, don't it?). And it is fun having feedback from others. It does mean I don't write about some of the deeper stuff though.

Janet said...

Reading blogs is a social thing - especially a way to connect with other quilters. I don't like too much lengthy introspection, but a little now and then is good. I also don't like when a blog is just about promoting a business.

My favourite thing about autumn:
As I LOVE autumn I can not just pick one! I love everything ... the leaves coloring, sitting inside with hot tea or cocoa, going for a walk, chilly crisp yet sunshiny mornings ... My own birthday is autumn - and I got married in autumn. My son was born in autumn. He btw, would LOVE this quilt. He loves bird and ducks in particular. I do not know why, but he goes totally frantic when he sees them ... :-) Very cute. In a zoo he once tried to climb the fence of the duck cage - he is not even one yet. So at the time he could barely walk ... it was SO funny!

Ms Muffin said...

Halloween plans:
Well, am not sure yet. We might do nothing really for it as my baby boy will just have turned one at the time ... and here in Germany it is not a big holiday anyway ...
There is a small zoo thing which has fun activities going on each year at that day. We might go there as my daughter (5) enjoys that quite alot. But it will depend on how much else is going on. September was quite busy so I am looking forward for things to quieten down a bit ... :-)

Ms Muffin said...

My favourite thing about writing a blog:
It used to be to be able to document all my projects. But since I started I have come to LOVE to be able to meet other creative peaple and exchange ideas with them. Get to know others, listen to their ideas and opinion. Sometimes get help as well or simply someone who tells you that you did a good job! ;-)
I love that I feel kinda "at home" when blogging cause I meet people that understand my crazy creating ... which most people I know in person do not. :-)

ulli-xox[at]web[dot]de

Ms Muffin said...

Why do I read blogs ... hard one. Of course for inspiration! I love finding ideas, sometimes patterns, sometimes it is just some combination of things I see that sparks a new idea ...
I also love to get to know the people "behind the blog" ;-) I like to see a bit about their life. I feel a bit like traveling around the world when reading blogs. I find it interesting that some things are so different depending on where you live - others are completely the same even though you might live on the other side of the world!

My mom is scheduled to arrive on 10/30, so tentatively we will be taking my 2.5 year old DD out Trick-or-Treating and/or to the Halloween carnival and other activities in town for smaller children. I could very well be having a baby or at home with a brand new baby, so we shall see! lol Amber in AK

I am not really sure what my favorite thing about writing a blog is. I'm sort of new to the whole thing. I have had one for a while, but have not really ever written anything or kept up with it! I really should, as I feel like my favorite thing would be that it is a great way to share things with friends, family, and like minded people. There are often things in our daily lives, maybe our quilting or crafting, little things kids say, etc., that maybe don't interest our every day friends or spouses/partners. Sharing on a blog, only those who actually care will read it, so you know people will appreciate what you are writing! Amber in AK

I read blogs for inspiration, ideas, to catch up on things in friends' lives that I don't talk with regularly, and to see what other quilters and/or moms are doing. I really enjoy watching quilty blogs, and seeing the progress people make on long term projects, and watching the creative process that others go through. Amber in AK

Oh, I love the ducks. My twin sister is having her first baby and she loves, loves ducks. It would be perfect for her! Okay, not to answer your question. My favorite thing about Autumn is watching my kids play in the leaf piles. They just laugh and laugh!

I just started a strictly quilting blog a few months ago. I love it because I get a chance to get others opinions on projects. I love sharing what I am working on and feeling a part of the amazing quilting community that I didn't know existed until a few months ago. I see you are also doing the chubby stars quilt-a-long. Me too!! That's another thing I like, coming to know other quilters through projects we make together.

I love seeing new patterns or ideas or products. I love seeing the hard work of others in their beautiful quilts and thinking someday I will be as talented. I love meeting new friend who live thousands of miles away but share things in common.

We take our two little ones (7 and 5) around the neighborhood for trick-or-treating. Other than that, we don't really do much for Halloween.

My very favorite thing about publishing my website is the idea that what I post will help someone develop a love for knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, embroidery or whatever craft they find help for at Hooked On Needles. Receiving an email saying how my video on something made it possible to finish a project or understand a new technique makes it all worth while.

I read other people's blogs so I can share in their excitement over what they have accomplished, and to get inspiration for my own projects. I look forward to seeing someone's project go from the idea stage all the way to completion and read about it all along the way.

Blogger crashed for some reason so do not know if this comment posted. What we will be doing for Halloween? My brother is giving a Saturday Halloween hayride - he will go across the field to our house - and we will hand out candy and act foolish with a bunch of little kiddies. Then he will take them back across the field, hopefully howling and laughing.
