Fall Into Fall Quilters GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Bittersweet October.  The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.
                                                                ~Carol Bishop Hipps

It's the first day of October!  And it's time for the Fall Into Fall Quilters Giveaway!!  Are your ready?!?  Of course you are.  But first a quick update:  Mom is healing but is quite spacey on morphine.  Yesterday she said that my sister and I both had freckles - neither of us do.  Then she said she saw butterflies in her room.  Ah, the wonders of drugs.  Last night DS got a call that Mom was trying to pull out all of the tubes and IVs - I think she's had enough.  We will see what today brings.  Thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts for Mom's quick recovery.

Photo Of The Day:

Orange spider gerbera in my front yard

The color orange:  Orange is vibrant. It's a combination of red and yellow so it shares some common attributes with those colors. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun. But orange has a bit less intensity or aggression than red, calmed by the cheerfulness of yellow.  Orange brings up images of autumn leaves, pumpkins, and (in combination with Black) Halloween. It represents the changing seasons so in that sense it is a color on the edge, the color of change between the heat of summer and the cool of winter.  Because orange is also a citrus color, it can conjure up thoughts of vitamin C and good health.  Orange, a perfect color for the first day of October.

I did manage to complete 3 hexagon flowers for my GFG quilt while sitting in the hospital yesterday.

I'm only giving you hints of the bottom two since I am saving those to show on One Flower Wednesdays!

Final Thoughts

October turns our thoughts toward Halloween, followed quickly by Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Autumn is one of my favorite times of year as it means we will finally be heading into cooler weather, the leaves will be changing into their color splendor, the days will be shorter, and we will have a fleeting look at few different birds as they begin their migration south.  I would like to share a recent poem I found the sums up autumn rather nicely:
"October's Party"
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
                                                                                       ~George Cooper

Have a wonderful, warm, wise, and winning Wednesday!

I used not to like fall, but as I get older, I appreciate the mildness of this time of year after the harshness of summer. (The quote at the top of this post sums it up well!) Cozy sweaters and sleeping under the blankets are great!

Best wishes to your mom.

I don't write a blog because my schedule is so erratic that I'd never be able to keep it up! But I love reading blogs to keep up with friends, and to learn about others with different viewpoints, passions, experiences. It makes for such eye-opening reading, which I love!

My favorite thing about writing a blog is hard to say I think I have 2

1)I like to be able to just put my thoughts about things or whats going on in my life out there, its like therapy I can just ramble on about my life or what I think.

2)I love the great people I have met from blogging, people all over the world that I will never meet in person but I feel like they are good friends.

Carin said...

I love to read other peoples blogs to feel like I am in touch with my friends, to know I am not the only one out there with crazy family, and to get great eye candy with what everyone else makes.

I read blogs to see what women around the world are doing with quilting! I really enjoy tutorials and am in awe of how generous and sharing quilters are with their knowledge!

My favorite thing about atumn is the change in the color of the leaves and the change in the weather. Its just a fun season. I have always loved Meg Ryan's line in "You've GOt Mail" about how Autumn just makes her want to go out and by a bouquet of school pencils.
Thanks,
MJ

I love reading blogs as they are so inspirational. I have learnt so much from other people...lots of tips, ideas and just making new online friends. I no longer have the time to blog myself, but still religiously read loads of blogs!

TJ said...

My favorite thing about fall is definitely the changing colors. Those vibrant red/yellow leaves, the cool (or cold!) weather after a drenching hot summer.

TJ said...

I am a every-now-and-then reader. I like a lot of your crafts, and love the photos. They're great.

TJ said...

Scaring the children that come for my candy. We have this huge tree right next to our doorway, so I just hang there like a prop and drop down when they ring my buzzer. Gets them every time!

TJ said...

Favorite thing about writing a blog is as a way to share with many people a lot of info without having to repeat it to each individual person time and time again. Also a great way to get feedback from people I don't personally know as well! Always helps to have a different perspective on things.

TJ said...

Why do I read blogs? Because they're fun! I love looking forward to new projects or things to do, and instead of doing aimless internet searches, I just read around blogs, and BOOM! Inspiration hits me right between the eyes. Or someone's already made my job easier by putting up a tutorial for something I've been meaning to make.

Karlee said...

I don't mean any insult to my warm weather sister, but I am from Indiana living in Central Texas. Fall means the hot summer is over. My husband is a native Texan so I obviously don't want to leave the State. I just live 7 months out of the year looking forward to fall.

Karlee said...

I just signed up to be a follower and have bookmarked your site, which is really cute.

Karlee said...

I blog because I am a bit housebound. I am handicap able, and if God hadn't let me follow that path, I never would have discovered quilting (and knitting). I hope through my blog to eventually reach others like myself to offer encouragement. I also want to meet lots of new friends in the blogging community.

Karlee said...

My Halloween plans are to help my husband handout candy to all the delightful children and to see my grand baby in first outfit (8 months old).

Karlee said...

I am not a TV person. With the addition of the Ipad from my hubby, I can handle the computer and readblogs for knowledge, inspiration, in the hopes of new friends, and fun!

OK, last comment. I love reading blogs because it helps me feel connected to others. I live in a pretty rural location, and don't have many friends where I live.
